Illinois Cannabis Compliance Testing

Illinois Cannabis Compliance Testing Process

At Origo Labs, our goal is to provide a consistent, reliable, and accurate testing service to cultivators, craft growers, processors, and infusers within the cannabis industry. The state of Illinois currently requires that all cannabis products are tested for the following:

  1. Active Ingredients: Cannabinoid Profile and Potency
  2. Pesticide Screening
  3. Microbiological Impurities
  4. Residual Solvents (Not Required For Flower)
  5. Mycotoxins
  6. Heavy Metals

All tests performed by Origo Labs meet and exceed the Illinois cannabis testing regulations and guidelines. For additional information, please refer to the Illinois cannabis testing regulations.

The Illinois compliance test is performed on cannabis products to determine whether or not the sample meets the testing requirements set by the state of Illinois Department of Agriculture. Each sample must pass every state mandated test in order for the business to legally be able to sell these products. Illinois compliance testing is more regulated as a result, and this testing requires Origo Labs to take additional precautions to prevent the samples from being tampered with.

Each cannabis sample testing request is slightly different, and Origo Labs can accommodate to each individual customer needs, but the general guidelines for placing an order remains consistent across clients. The Illinois cannabis compliance testing process starts with ensuring the proper documentation is presented to Origo Labs prior to scheduling the sample pick up. The next step is to fill out a new client submission form and an Origo Labs representative will reach out to you. You’ll need to provide Origo Labs with some basic customer information, such as your name, company information, state issued license number, the product category (i.e. flower, oil, edibles) you are testing, strain name, batch size, batch ID, harvest/production date, and which tests you would like to perform so that Origo Labs can create a chain of custody and prepare the order. A sample appointment will then be scheduled with an Origo Labs sample collector to begin the sampling process. During a conversation with an Origo Labs account manager, they will walk you through the documentation, chain of custody, and sampling requirements to meet the Illinois cannabis compliance testing regulations. Once the order is finalized, an Origo Labs trained sample collector is sent out to perform sampling of the cannabis products according to the state of Illinois guidelines. Once the sample selection is made, it is sealed in a tamperproof container and is then scheduled to be transported to the lab.

Once Origo Labs receives the cannabis product, we’ll document, prepare and test it according to the state of Illinois regulations and guidelines. These methods and procedures ensure that the sample does not get contaminated and that results are accurate, reliable, and consistent. The sample is then analyzed, and the data is reviewed by trained analysts. All results are checked by a trained laboratory technician, as well as the Lab Director to ensure its accuracy, prior to the results being published to our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Once the tests are complete, the laboratory director will prepare a Certificate of Analysis, which contains the results of the tests and additional information as to whether or not the sample passed or failed based on the state of Illinois regulations. The Certificate of Analysis, along with a QR code, is then sent to the client for review. Simultaneously, the Certificate of Analysis is sent to the Illinois Department of Agriculture only if the sample fails one of the required tests.

A client can access their results and compare it across the industry standards to check for any discrepancies once they are logged in to their client portal within the Origo Labs website. All results will also be emailed to clients for electronic recordkeeping. All FAILED Illinois Compliance testing results will be sent to the Illinois Department of Agriculture within two business days of the results being published.
